Your Pet Portrait Artist

Book me as your pet portrait artist

Congratulations on deciding to commission a pet portrait.

This is very exciting for both of us.

For me, it means you’ve been impressed by all you’ve seen, which is fantastic news, and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to support a local North Devon artist. For you, it means the start of your journey resulting in your receiving a beautiful portrait of your beloved pet.

Your questions answered when using me as your pet portrait artist

How do you get your photo to me?

Firstly, if you haven’t already, take a look at how to commission a pet portrait.  This page has valuable information on how to choose a suitable photo.

Choose how to send your photo

Email – This is the best method because you are able to upload high-quality photographs and send them as an attachment. I shall then continue to converse with you via your email.

Facebook – Many of my customers have sent me photos through messenger on my Facebook page ‘JagosArt’. If this is your preferred method of communication then I shall continue to converse with you via messenger throughout the commission process.

Post – If you only have photos of your pet then you are welcome to post them to me. However, please don’t post your original photos if they are the only ones you have, I cannot accept responsibility for items that get lost in the post. I think in this situation it would be advisable to have your photos scanned and the images put onto a cd or USB stick. You then have the choice of sending them to me via this format or uploading them to your own computer and sending them to me via email.

How will I know how my portrait is coming along?

I will keep in touch will you throughout the process. I will let you know when I have made a start. I will then follow this up with up to two work in progress photos of your portrait and finally a photo of the finished picture for your approval. Keeping you updated like this enables you to request alterations at each step if you so wish.

How long will it take?

Portraits take between 1 – 3 weeks to complete depending on the medium used, size of the portrait if alterations are requested etc. I will give you an approximate finishing date once I start.

If your portrait is intended as a gift then please let me know, as soon as possible, when you need your portrait completed.

Please bear in mind the months leading up to Christmas can be very busy so if your portrait is intended as a Christmas gift then I advise you get in touch no later than October to be guaranteed your portrait is ready in time.

Once we have decided on the details of your portrait I shall request a non-refundable 30% deposit to secure your commission slot.

On completion, I shall then ask for the full balance to be paid. You are able to pay securely with a credit or debit card online through PayPal or by cheque through the post.

Once payment has been received (or once your cheque has cleared) I will make arrangements for your portrait to be sent to you.

Postage and Packaging

Charcoal, graphite and coloured pencil portraits will be sprayed with a fixative spray. Watercolour paintings will be sprayed with a UV Fixative spray to prevent fading. (Fading should not occur if you follow the instructions given on the certificate of authenticity which you receive with your portrait i.e do not hang in direct sunlight, however, I like to provide further protection by using the spray).

Your portrait will then be placed in a cellophane sleeve, wrapped in bubble wrap and sent in either a card backed ‘do not bend’ envelope or a box, depending on the size.

If your portrait is posted within the UK it will be sent with The Royal Mail’s Signed for 1st Class service or Royal Mail’s Next Day Special Delivery. You will be responsible for the postage charges so the choice is yours.

If your portrait is shipped to the EU it will be sent with The Royal Mail and can be shipped as International Standard (this service is not tracked) or as International Tracked and Signed. Once again you will be responsible for the postage charges so the choice is yours.

If your portrait is shipped to the USA it will be sent with The Royal Mail using their International Tracked and Signed for service. You will be responsible for the postage charges. Royal Mail states that they aim to deliver within 5-7 days.

However, I CANNOT guarantee this so this should be taken into account if your portrait is needed by a certain date. I also need to add that you will be responsible for any customs charges.
